I Voted Today! (and here's how you can too)

September 13, 2019

Hi, it’s Alison here, Operations Manager for the Brad Vis Campaign.

Elections Canada says I can vote by “Special Ballot” any time during the election period, so I thought I’d go down to my local Elections Canada office and see what happens.

Turns out the process is really simple.

Here in Mission, the Elections Canada office is on the University of the Fraser Valley campus.

I walked in the main entrance, where they asked me to sign in at the reception desk, then went down the hall to Room D153.

I told the nice folks I wanted to cast a “Special Ballot.”

They asked me for 2 pieces of identification, and 1 needed to have current address. After seeing my ID, they gave me a ballot and asked me to write in the name of the candidate I was voting for.

Here’s the important part.

They instructed me to “write the candidate’s name on the ballot.”

For me, that’s Brad Vis.

It’s critical to put Brad’s name on the ballot. If you write the party’s name only without the candidate’s name, they will consider it a “spoiled ballot” and your vote won’t count.

ID Requirements

The easiest thing is to use your BC Drivers Licence or any other government-issue photo ID that includes your current address.

If your photo ID does not contain your current address, you can use a variety of other documents, like a bank statement, utility bill, or student ID.

The full list is available on the Elections Canada website.

Voting Hours

I also phoned Elections Canada to find out what hours they’re open for voting. Here’s what they said:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon to 4:00 p.m.

Vote Early to Beat the Lineups

This is the most important election in our lifetime. Why? Because we can’t afford to pay for another four years of Liberal blunders, mismanagement and scandals.

If you only do one thing this week, do this.

Vote.

Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Alison Rachel Signature
