Lack of Leadership

Schmale excoriates the Prime Minister for his lack of leadership on Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline project.

"The Prime Minister should have come down to British Columbia immediately after Premier Horgan was sworn in, with his key cabinet ministers, and laid out a plan to get this pipeline built."

Politics and Pints Pub Night, hosted by the Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon Riding Association, welcomed Ontario MP Jamie Schmale to speak to a group of 45 constituents on May 3, 2018. Mission Springs Restaurant, in the heart of Mission, was the venue for Mr. Schmale’s address.

He covered the importance of the resource industry across the country, but focused his attention on the pipeline dispute between BC and Alberta’s NDP governments. He excoriated the Prime Minister for his lack of leadership on Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline project.

"... there is still no plan [from the Prime Minister]
on how we’re going to get this pipeline built."

“The Prime Minister should have come down to British Columbia immediately after Premier Horgan was sworn in, with his key cabinet ministers, and laid out a plan to get this pipeline built. Instead, he let all sides dig in and the crisis snowballed. We have a couple of weeks left until Kinder Morgan’s deadline comes and there is still no plan [from the Prime Minister] on how we’re going to get this pipeline built.”

"I googled the riding and saw the name.
I have no idea who this guy is."

Elected to Parliament in the 2015 election to represent the people of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock in Ottawa, was former MP Barry Devolin’s Executive Assistant for eleven years. During this time, he learned what it takes to be an effective representative for his riding. Prior to his trip out to B.C., he had no idea who the Member of Parliament was for Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon.

“I googled the riding and saw the name. I have no idea who this guy is. Not even after I found a picture of him.”
Unfortunately, Mr. Schmale’s experience in Ottawa mirrors that of many constituents in our riding.

Nobody knows who our elected representative is. This is a problem we plan to solve in 2019 by electing a hard-working Conservative Member of Parliament – one who respects the constituents of this riding and, more importantly, is accessible and responsive when we communicate our our concerns to them.
